Two games in and AC Milan already have their backs against the wall, as highlighted by today’s edition of Corriere dello Sport. With Lazio up next, Paulo Fonseca will have to turn things around completely to avoid a full-blown crisis.
As the newspaper wrote (via MilanNews), few would have predicted the struggles of Milan given the pre-season and the easy’ schedule at the start of this season. Yet, on August 25, the Rossoneri find themselves with their backs against the wall.
One point in two games is the worst start to a season since 2011-12, but the main issue is how this has come about. The team lacks ideas and endurance, almost as if Fonseca had arrived at Milanello a mere two weeks ago.
The truth, however, is that they have been working together for over a month and a half and there is little to show for this. The positive pre-season results were certainly misleading as Milan have taken not one, not two, but three steps back at the start of this season.
On the other hand, having the crisis now is better than in the heat of the season, but this could also quickly turn into a nightmare. A solution for the defence is yet to be found and without it, the Rossoneri can kiss the second star goodbye.
Parma really exposed the struggles at the back, creating a chance every time they went forward, and Milan were rescued by the new signing Strahinja Pavlovic on more than one occasion. The big stars, meanwhile, failed to impress once again.
