Liverpool have officially announced the signing of Italy international Federico Chiesa on a permanent transfer from Juventus, subject to international clearance.
The 26-year-old former Fiorentina winger joins Arne Slot’s side in a €15m deal. He was into the final year of his contract at the Allianz Stadium.
He has reportedly put pen to paper on a four-year contract at Anfield, which will run until the summer of 2028.
“I’m so happy to be a Liverpool player. When Richard Hughes called me and he said, ‘Do you want to join Liverpool?’ – and the coach called me – I said yes immediately because I know the history of this club, I know what it represents to the fans,” Chiesa said in a statement on the club website.
Chiesa leaves Juventus after four full seasons, during which time he made 131 appearances across all competitions and scored 32 goals in the process. He was also part of the EURO 2020-winning Italy squad while a Bianconeri player.
It has been an unsettling summer for the Italy international, who was informed that he would not be part of Thiago Motta’s plans for the upcoming season. He was part of a long-list of players that the new Bianconeri coach felt did not fit in with the plans for the 2024-25 season.
Chiesa has spent large parts of the summer training away from the first-team group at Continassa, as he was told to find himself a new club before the end of the summer transfer window.
There had been some interest from Barcelona over the last week, but Hansi Flick’s side needed to move players on first before the Chiesa move became a feasible option.
Now on the ground in Merseyside, Chiesa is the seventh Italian player to represent Liverpool in the Premier League era.
