SAD: Milan’s attempts to sign Simone ended up to nothing….the situation

AC Milan found themselves in the frame to sign goalkeeper Simone Scuffet this summer in response to the serious injury that Marco Sportiello suffered, but the deal never came to fruition.

As highlighted by Calciomercato.com, the financial requests from Cagliari and the development of a young player at the club meant Milan walked away from the discussion.

Sportiello’s injury meant that Milan were left without their backup to Mike Maignan and the response was to see if an equivalent-level goalkeeper could be signed without shelling out too much money.

Cagliari’s Scuffet was identified as a potential loanee, but the Rossoblu wanted to make sure that being deprived of their goalkeeper in the short term was worth their while.

They requested €500,000 for the loan and then another €100,000 in add-ons and Milan felt that was far too high.

Another reason for Milan to walk away from the deal was that Lorenzo Torriani had a particularly impressive pre-season with the first time and proved that, were Maignan to get injured, Milan could count on Torriani for a short spell between the sticks.

As well as Torriani, Noah Raveyre and Lapo Nava are also still at the club and have impressed at their age level, so there is cover without Scuffet.
