Inter Milan are considering a move for Napoli and Everton linked Hellas Verona wingback Jackson Tchatchoua as a replacement for Denzel Dumfries.
This according to Italian news outlet FCInterNews. They report that Dumfries will likely extend his contract with Inter soon, but that the Nerazzurri are nevertheless considering options for the future.
At the moment, the right flank is something of a hot topic for Inter.
The Nerazzurri currently have three players who can play in the position.
There is Matteo Darmian. The former Manchester United veteran has started all of Inter’s matches so far this season at right-wingback.
However, Darmian will turn 35 this season. He is certainly not a long-term option in the role.
Then there is Canadian international Tajon Buchanan.
Buchanan joined Inter from Club Brugge in January. However, he is currently recovering from a serious leg break.
Moreover, Buchanan is a versatile player who can play on either flank. Thus far, he has exclusively been used at left-wingback by Inter coach Simone Inzaghi.
And then the situation of Dumfries is a bit up in the air, particularly for the longer term.
As of yet, the Dutchman has yet to sign a contract extension. His deal therefore runs out at the end of next June.
Inter are hoping to seal an extension for Dumfries.
But even if the 28-year-old does sign a new deal, it is not a guarantee that he’ll stay past next summer.
Dumfries could put pen to paper on a new contract that would allow Inter to avoid losing him on a free transfer next summer.
Nevertheless, the Nerazzurri would listen to offers for Dumfries, particularly from the Premier League.
Dumfries has made no secret of the fact that playing in the English top flight is a long-term goal for him.
Therefore, Inter are considering their options as far as prospective replacements for the Dutchman.
And one player who has already impressed within Serie A is Cameroonian international Tchatchoua.
Tchatchoua joined Verona in the summer of 2022. And he has been one of their most consistent performers through two relegation scraps under two different coaches.
This has inevitably attracted transfer interest.
There were three major offers for Tchatchoua during the summer transfer window.
Everton offered €10 million for the 22-year-old. And Rennes put forward a bit worth €10 million plus €2 million in add-ons.
Meanwhile, Napoli offered €11 million to sign Tchatchoua. Coach Antonio Conte is a big fan of the Cameroonian.
However, the Gialloblu rejected all of these offers. They would not accept any bids lower than €15 million.
According to FCIN, however, Inter are considering Tchatchoua as a target.
And depending on what happens with Dumfries, the Nerazzurri could make an offer that would meet Verona’s asking price.
