AC Milan are navigating a turbulent period, marked by a significant crisis in both results and gameplay. The team has managed only one victory in their last twelve matches, and the initial promise shown during summer friendlies has given way to confusion in the first three official outings of the season. The atmosphere became even more strained following an incident involving players Theo Hernandez and Rafael Leao during a 2-2 draw against Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico.

The controversy arose shortly after Rafael Leao scored the equalizer for Milan. As the team gathered for a cooling break, Hernandez and Leao chose not to join their teammates, citing that they had just entered the field and did not require a break. This decision was perceived as defiance against the coach, Paulo Fonseca, sparking a debate about internal discord within the team.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport (via Calciomercato),Following the match, a clarification meeting took place inside the stadium. Theo Hernandez and Rafael Leao spoke with coach Paulo Fonseca and technical director Geoffrey Moncada, expressing regret over the misunderstanding. They insisted that their actions were not intended as a protest against the coach. Both players provided explanations to the media, emphasizing that there was no intention to create issues where none existed.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic, a senior advisor at the club, also intervened. Although not present at the match, he made a phone call to the players, reinforcing the club’s support for Fonseca and the importance of respecting his decisions. This intervention was crucial in resolving the situation without further disciplinary actions against the players.

The club has decided not to impose fines on Hernandez and Leao, but a message of zero tolerance has been communicated. The players are expected to adhere strictly to team protocols moving forward. Upon returning from international duty, they will be crucial for Milan’s upcoming matches against Venezia, Liverpool, and Inter, which could be pivotal for both the team’s season and Fonseca’s future.
