REPORT: An €47 million clause and Maresca’s admission – Milan rekindle pursuit….see more

AC Milan were linked with various old flames this summer – some who arrived like Emerson Royal and some who didn’t like Manu Kone – and Carney Chukwuemeka’s name remains on the list.

Calciomercato.com recall how Milan tried to sign Chukwuemeka again this summer after having made an initial attempt two years ago when he was at Aston Villa. He was an alternative to Adrien Rabiot, for whom Giorgio Furlani did not find a salary agreement with his mother-agent Veronique.

Chukwuemeka ended up staying at Chelsea and partly because Ismael Bennacer did not leave Milan, but there is no future for him in the first team, despite the fact that he has a contract expiring in 2028.

The new head coach Enzo Maresca admitted as much: “Carney is a very good player, but due to some injuries in the past I think it is important that he plays 30 or 35 games in a row. Will he play for us? I am not sure.”

In the last few days of the transfer market, West Ham and Manchester United also asked for information – the latter as part a possible deal extended to include Jadon Sancho – but in the end he stayed.

The option of Turkey remains for Chukwuemeka because their window closes on September 13, but at the moment the chances of him staying in west London are high and he would then evaluate the offers in the new year.

In Italy, the 20-year-old is also liked by Napoli, but with Bennacer’s departure Milan could go back in. The England U20 international – who cost €24m two summers ago – has a clause of around €47.5m, but can leave for a much lower amount.
