Markieff Morris is staying in Dallas for a third season. The veteran forward and the Dallas Mavericks agreed to terms on a new deal, Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium reports. Charania notes that Morris’ agent, Yony Noy, confirmed the report.
“The reigning Western Conference champions prioritized re-signing Morris, 34, who has served as a strong leader in Mavs’ locker room entering his 14th NBA season,” Charania wrote on X.
Morris turned 35 on September 2. Terms of the deal have not been reported. Morris previously signed a fully guaranteed one-year, $3.19 million contract with the Mavericks in September 2023. The NBA veteran minimum for the 2024-25 season is $3.31 million for a player who has been in the league for 10 or more seasons.
Morris was an unrestricted free agent before coming to a contract agreement with the Mavericks. He carried a salary cap hit of $2.08 million.
Last season, Morris averaged 2.5 points and 1.5 rebounds in 8.3 minutes per game. He appeared in 26 contests. He played just one postseason game, totaling three points and four rebounds in Dallas’ blowout Game 4 win over the Boston Celtics in the Finals.
