Josh Allen escapes serious injury, the latest on the Buffalo Bills quarterback’s health
Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen sustained a hand injury in Sunday’s 34-28 victory over the Arizona Cardinals, casting a shadow over his impressive performance
Allen, who played a key role in the Bills’ comeback win, hurt his left, non-throwing hand after a hard landing while scoring a fourth-quarter touchdown
The injury occurred as Allen hurdled over Cardinals safety Budda Baker, only to be pushed by two defenders.
- Despite the impact, Allen remained in the game with his hand heavily taped.
After the game, he reassured fans but indicated that more evaluations were necessary.
“Again, we’ll find out — I’m not quite sure,” Allen told reporters, via ESPN’s Alaina Getzenberg.
“I’m not a doctor. But just kind of landed on it, I guess.”
While Allen was uncertain about the injury’s severity, Dr. David Chao, a former NFL team physician, offered an optimistic assessment.
Chao, analyzing the play footage, said Allen was unlikely to have suffered a fracture, and the injury should not affect his availability going forward.
“He landed with his right elbow on his left hand/wrist on the touchdown. There’s not gonna be a fracture. He’s gonna be fine. It’s his off-hand. No big deal,” Chao explained on his injury analysis website.
Reflecting on his decision to leap over Baker, Allen admitted, “Second time, I knew it was Budda, and Budda’s a good player, and he’ll lay the boom on you, so I decided to go up and over, but probably can’t make a living doing that, but here we are.”
