Just In: Barbara Berlusconi criticises San Siro stadium… see more

Barbara Berlusconi, daughter of former AC Milan owner Silvio Berlusconi and ex-CEO of the club, has spoken out about the ongoing saga surrounding the future of San Siro stadium in Milan. Her comments come in the wake of a meeting between Inter, Milan, and the Milan City Council, where the clubs rejected a renovation proposal for the current stadium.

Berlusconi expressed her frustration with the situation, stating, “The stadium affair is humiliating for a city like Milan, which is a symbol of modernity and innovation and has always been ahead of its time. It’s a true Italian comedy, deliberately designed to decide nothing.”

She criticized the time wasted on exploring unfeasible options, saying, “Months have been lost to confirm the obvious: that San Siro is effectively not renovatable, because the potential costs are unsustainable and far from the figure that was presented.”

Berlusconi pointed out that the current situation has brought the discussion back to where it started years ago. “We’ve returned to the 2019 proposal. It’s disheartening to note that, like in the game of snakes and ladders, we always return to the starting point,” she remarked.

Her comments highlight the ongoing challenges faced by both Milan clubs in their quest to modernize their stadium facilities. As a former key figure in AC Milan’s management and someone who previously attempted to build a new stadium for the club, Berlusconi’s perspective adds weight to the criticism of the slow progress and indecision surrounding the San Siro issue.

The rejection of the renovation proposal and the potential return to plans for building a new stadium in the same area mark another chapter in this long-running debate. It remains to be seen how the city and the clubs will move forward from this point, but Berlusconi’s comments underscore the frustration felt by many over the lack of progress in resolving Milan’s stadium situation.
