JUST IN: Sacchi outline what he want from Fonseca…see more

Arrigo Sacchi has joined the crowd of those who believe that Paulo Fonseca should make some tactical changes to his AC Milan side.

The pressure will be on Milan to perform at San Siro against Venezia tonight given that they are winless in their first three games, with a 2-2 draw against Torino followed by back-to-back away games against Parma and Lazio which yielded a 2-1 defeat and another 2-2 tie respectively.

Various pundits and former players have been putting forward their opinions about what Fonseca has got wrong so far, including Maurizio Sarri and Zvonimir Boban who both urged him to switch to a 4-3-3, something the head coach responded to defiantly in his pre-match presser.

Sacchi spoke to La Gazzetta dello Sport about a number of different topics related to the resumption of Serie A today, and he of course commented on his former club Milan. His comments were relayed by PianetaMilan.

What about your Milan?

“Too many games. There is no time to train, the players risk getting injured and, if we continue at this rate, the fans are destined to see unspectacular battles. How can you think of admiring teams that move by heart, if they don’t have days to prepare?”

What changes should Fonseca make?

“Very complicated. The international commitments will affect the players’ minds and legs. Let’s take Milan: they play against Venezia, who are inferior on a technical level, but the Rossoneri are expected to face Liverpool in the Champions League at San Siro. How will they manage the double commitment? There could be surprises.

“I expect them to become a team. Fonseca must have a clear objective: the players must always be in an active position. In this way, there are fewer risks and a more organised pressing can be achieved. Furthermore, and this is far from secondary, it is less tiring.”
