Okay, for the record, yes, I listened to Eminem twenty years ago. Pretty much everyone did. And yes, I’ve tried to do so within the past few years, and I just can’t get into it anymore. Marshall Mathers was a product of the early 2000s and that’s probably where he should stay.
But unfortunately today I noticed he released a song entitled “Kyrie & Luka.” Due to being a fan of the Dallas Mavericks, I was obligated to listen. After doing so, I can easily say that this is a song that exists and you can listen to it as well, if you wish.
I’m not one to just dump on someone’s art. It’s all subjective, after all. Maybe you’ll listen to “Kyrie & Luka” and enjoy it. People have the right to create and express themselves, to present their view of the world in the way they see fit. Sometimes people will identify with what you create, and other times, it will fall flat. Maybe “Kyrie & Luka” just isn’t for me.
My biggest complaint? Luka isn’t mentioned in the song. Kyrie is only mentioned in two lines: “Just like Kyrie, I got this shit handled.” That verse is from 2 Chainz, who is featured on the track. Because sure, why not.
I’m sure there’s some subtle meaning to the song I’m not picking up on, and that’s fine. I’m not going to listen to it a dozen times to sort out all the deeper concerns in it, if there even are any. I’m tired, man. Have you browsed the news lately? Things are on fire, always. Eminem’s angry energy just isn’t something I want to be seeking out right now.
So here’s the thing—I’ve done my job and alerted you to the existence of “Kyrie & Luka.” If you feel like going down the path of subjecting yourself to that, I understand. Sometimes curiosity gets the better of you.
If you’re wondering why Eminem is releasing a song about two Mavericks players in the year of our Lord 2024, well, I can’t help you there. I truly don’t understand anything that happens anymore. All I know is the NBA season is still more than a month away and this is what we have until actual basketball is played.
