Ryan Gravenberch was the star of the show in the eyes of many for Liverpool vs AC Milan, but that wasn’t what the Italian commentators saw.
Arne Slot has somehow managed to transform Ryan Gravenberch into one of the best holding midfielders in the Premier League in the short space of time he’s been at Liverpool.
Steve Nicol admitted that Gravenberch proved him wrong with his performance last night against AC Milan, after a rather disappointing first season at Anfield.
He picked up the Man of the Match award for his performance, which included 57 touches of the ball and a passing accuracy percentage of 90. He also won three duels, seven interceptions, nine ball recoveries, one clearance, and one tackle (as per SofaScore).
However, Sky Sports Italy commentators didn’t share the same opinion as they picked another Liverpool player for the Man of the Match award.
Cody Gakpo only had 43 touches but he made them count.
He picked up one assist, had a passing accuracy percentage of 83, made two key passes, had two shots on target, four dribbles completed, seven duels won, one interception and one tackle made (as per SofaScore).
The Dutchman has had to wait for his chances this season due to the form of Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota and Mohamed Salah as Arne Slot’s front three.
But, this will have opened the eyes of Slot, who could look to make changes for the Reds’ next Premier League game after suffering defeat against Nottingham Forest last time out.
