Both teams featured in midweek Champions League action but experienced contrasting fortunes. Milan threw away a third-minute lead in a dismal 3-1 home defeat to Liverpool, while Inter avoided defeat at the Etihad Stadium, drawing 0-0 against Manchester City.

Indeed, the signs look ominous for the Rossoneri faithful. Anything other than three points against Inzaghi’s well-oiled machine would likely spell the end of Fonseca’s miserable tenure. On the other hand, a victory would see Inzaghi etch his name down in the history books.
Inter bested Milan in both league encounters last season, including a thumping 5-1 win in this corresponding fixture on matchday four. They also outscored their neighbors in all four meetings in 2022/23, accounting for a superb six-match winning streak.
Another win would be Inter’s seventh in a row against Milan, a feat unheard of in the storied history of this fixture. With Inzaghi masterminding all six previous victories, he’s on the brink of achieving greatness.
