Milan loanee Colombo says he would ‘prefer to return’ later rather than sooner

Empoli have been a big surprise at the start of this season, not losing a single game, and the AC Milan loanee Lorenzo Colombo has been an important part of this. When asked during an interview, he dropped some hints regarding his future.

Following a positive pre-season with Milan, the decision was eventually made to send Colombo out on loan. The idea was that there wouldn’t be room for the Italian, which ended up being true as Tammy Abraham was signed on deadline day.

In any case, Colombo has started his loan spell at Empoli very well with three goals and one assist in seven appearances. You are very hungry and it shows…

“That hunger is the same I had as a kid, I always have it. I have a goal in mind and I have always worked with that in mind.”

Does it have anything to do with the Rossoneri?

“Let’s say I have many goals. Milan is always in my head.”

So it’s about the Azzurri, not only Empoli but also the national team…

“It could be…”

And speaking of Milan: this is the third loan in Serie A. Did you expect it to be the year to really show the Rossoneri that you deserve a chance?

“The truth is that I still have to grow, make mistakes and above all play. The level of Milan is very high and I can only get there through the path I’m taking. I prefer to return when I’m more ready and make the most of the next opportunity.”

It should be noted that according to reports, Empoli have the option to make the deal permanent at the end of the current season. Furthermore, Milan don’t have a buy-back class as they did when Colombo joined Lecce a few years back.

It remains to be seen what the exact figures are for the buy-out clause, but one would imagine that they are a bit higher since Milan don’t have a buy-back clause.
