Contact: Conte asked about Milan Ultras wanting him as a……. see more

Napoli boss Antonio Conte has responded to the reports that leading members of the Curva Sud were allegedly trying to pressure AC Milan into hiring him as the next head coach.

Heading into the summer there were calls from a section of the fanbase to hire Conte given that he has multiple Serie A titles to his name and was seen by some to be a demanding coach who could take the club to the next level.

Despite this, it seems that the management never took him into consideration as an option. A wiretap emerged as part of the investigation into the influence of ultras in which a leading Curva Sud member argued with another about why Conte should be the next coach, even stating that he was working on convincing the club.

Conte spoke at a pre-match press conference this afternoon two days before Friday night’s match against Monza which he hopes will see Napoli retain top spot, and he was asked about the arrests of the ultras.

“I read about the arrests, I don’t know the situation very well and without knowing it it’s difficult to express myself,” he said (via La Gazzetta dello Sport).

“The Milan ultras wanted be? I can’t do anything about it, if the fans like it I can only be happy. It means that my work is appreciated 360 degrees even if I have coached rival teams like Inter and Juventus.”
