Inter Milan and AC Milan are confident that they’ve taken the necessary measures to avoid problems in the latest investigation to alleged illegal behaviour by their ultras groups.
This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Corriere della Sera, via FCInterNews.
Recent days have seen the eruption of yet another scandal surrounding Inter ultras group the Curva Nord and their Milan counterpart the Curva Sud.
Prosecutors have arrested a total of nineteen members of the two clubs’ ultras groups.
These arrests concerned alleged illegal ticket sales and other activities related to Nerazzurri and Rossoneri matchdays.
Furthermore, prosecutors allege ties between the ultras groups and mafia organizations.
As part of their crackdown, prosecutors have opened investigations into Inter and Milan’s organizations.
However, it has been made clear that these proceedings are not aimed at punishing the clubs. Rather, the authorities want to be certain that Inter and Milan are doing everything possible to avoid facilitating potentially illegal activities by their ultras.
Inter and Milan have long been aware of the potential pitfalls of this situation, however.
The Nerazzurri have been in contact with the prosecutor’s office earlier this year. They made an official statement regarding their relationship with the Nord ultras group on April 30th.
Inter have taken steps to sever ties with the Curva Nord.
The Nerazzurri have also given lessons to their players regarding relations with the ultras.
The Corriere della Sera note that Inter have been in regular communication with DIGOS (a division of Italian law enforcement dealing with terrorism and organized crime).
These communications, via email, have concerned any concessions Inter have made to the Nord.
And when there have been problems, Inter have addressed them.
This included severing a business relationship with the Kiss&Fly company due to alleged organized crime ties.
And it is a similar story with Milan. Like Inter, the Rossoneri have long been aware of the potential issues here.
The recent arrests did not come as too much of a shock for either Inter or Milan. And as far as the clubs are concerned, they believe that they’ve protected themselves.
