Portugal were dominant against Poland in their latest Nations League clash, winning 3-1, and the Portuguese press have been very positive about AC Milan’s star, Rafael Leao.
The past 18 months have been difficult for Milan, and too often, the winger has been criticised for a lack of positive performances. Even during the last international break, there were suggestions that if things were bad in Milan, they were just as bad – if not worse – back home.
Whilst things have not improved substantially for the Rossonero, he has shown glimpses of growth, although more consistency is needed before there are suggestions that he is back to his old self.
Regardless of this though, credit must be given to the winger, because if nothing else, it raises his confidence and he is very clearly a confidence based player, so the reports of his positive performance against Poland will be very beneficial.
In fact, A Bola – a Portuguese newspaper – listed him as the best player from the night, giving him an 8 out of 10 in their ratings, as Milan News relays. The paper does not stop with the praise there, though, and this is their verdict of his performance.
“Amazing. As soon as you see him pass the first, you hold your breath, because the danger is coming. He is magic in motion. Strength, technique and ball handling, in perfect harmony, from this striker who tore the Polish team to pieces on several occasions.
“On the occasion of Ronaldo’s goal, it was he who went everywhere, passing from one to the other, until his shot hit the post. The second was even more brilliant: he was surprised on several occasions, until he ‘gifted’ the goal to Bruno Fernandes, who failed to capitalise. Sublime!”
Hopefully, Leao can continue on this track, and if he can, his and Milan’s smile might grow once again. After all, this is probably going to be his defining season for the Diavolo.
