AC Milan have emerged as the latest club that want to take Federico Chiesa back to the Serie A.
The Italian attacker joined Liverpool in the summer in £10 million with potential add-ons.
Chiesa’s move to Liverpool was finalized on August 29, when the club announced his signing a long-term contract.
The 26-year-old arrived with a reputation for versatility and creativity, having amassed 32 goals and 23 assists in 131 appearances for Juventus.
His experience at the international level, including a pivotal role in Italy’s Euro 2020 triumph, added to the excitement surrounding his arrival.
As such, his signing was seen as a big coup and it was anticipated he will bolster Liverpool’s attacking options.
However, his contributions have been limited due to fitness issues.
Since making his Liverpool debut in September during Liverpool’s UEFA Champions League game against AC Milan, the 26-year-old has only played one game for Liverpool.
He played just 65 minutes in the game before being substituted.
Since then, he has not featured and has not even made recent matchday squads, never mind attempting to force his way into the starting XI.
This has led to transfer speculation, with the latest reports from Serie A now emerging that AC Milan are interested in taking him in a swap deal.
According to Milan Live, AC Milan is considering Chiesa, with the possibility of signing him in January currently being considered.
“A transfer is not excluded at the moment, starting from the January market,” the news outlet reports.
“If Chiesa is unable to find his dimension, it is likely that he could ask to leave, unless Liverpool shows him the door.
“The club, in fact, could use him as a bargaining chip. The latest idea is to take him straight back to Serie A.
“There are many clubs that are winking at the former Juve player and among these there is certainly Paulo Fonseca’s Milan .
“In the past, the striker had been linked to the Milanese.”
The report also adds that should Milan approach Liverpool, the Reds could be forced to demand a player in exchange for Chiesa.
“In January there could be an acceleration even if this means having to make a sacrifice,” the report adds.
“In fact, it could be Liverpool themselves who propose Chiesa to Milan in exchange for the real objective of the English, one of the top players essential for the Rossoneri coach.
“We are referring to Tijjani Reijnders, who is increasingly comfortable in the Milan midfield. The Reds are reportedly considering a crazy exchange involving the Dutchman and Chiesa .
“Slot has requested a midfielder, considering it a priority for January. And the management’s list includes the ’98-born player.”
AC Milan is not the first Serie A club to be linked with a move for Chiesa.
Last week, Daniele Longo at Calcio Mercato claimed that Italian side Como were interested in taking the attacker on loan in January.
Meanwhile, Liverpool coach Arne Slot rubbished claims that Chiesa will leave the club soon.
