Rafael Leao’s season has been quite up and down, but the AC Milan star has still been vital to things so far. With the winger now injured, the Rossoneri have a big problem.
Despite his problems in the first half of the season, Leao has managed to undergo somewhat of a resurgence in recent weeks and both he and Paulo Fonseca deserve credit for this. It is a relationship that, at one point, seemed beyond fixing, but this is far from the case now.
With Leao asking his agents for a way out of Milan, Fonseca managed to unlock the winger, finding a new formula to make him excel with the Rossoneri also then improving as a result. Currently, they are in a position that many would have hoped for after the pre-season meeting, but we cannot focus too much on the past, only the present and future.
The present sees Leao injured though – after 30 minutes against Verona, the Portuguese went to ground without being challenged and could not continue, which saw Theo Hernandez brought onto the pitch.
Fears are already in place about how long the winger could miss and Milan News have reported that the winger will definitely miss the Roma game before New Year. Additionally, he is set to have an MRI next week before the team travel to Saudi Arabia.
For this reason, Fonseca must analyse the alternate options and with Okafor also sidelined, there is not many.
In fact, the report suggests that Alex Jimenez could be shifted forward – after playing most of the Verona game as a winger – alternatively, Christian Pulisic could be brought back into the side if he is able to play.
