Joao Felix’s debut goal for AC Milan has got Chelsea supporters talking on social media.
It has only been one game, but Joao Felix already looks like he is going to be a real threat for AC Milan.
His goal against AS Roma was a very good one, with the forward lobbing Mile Svilar to help Sergio Conceicao’s side win 3-1 in the Copa Italia.
Felix’s strike comes at a time where Nicolas Jackson is struggling to find the back of the net. After failing to score in Chelsea‘s 2-1 victory over West Ham United on Monday, the centre-forward has now extended his goalless run to eight games.
Jackson has been Chelsea’s first-choice No.9 this season and started the campaign well, scoring nine goals in the Premier League before the new year.
Unlike Felix, the 23-year-old is also a natural striker. Yet several Chelsea supporters do not think he is actually a better option up top than the Portuguese.
In response to Felix’s debut goal for Milan, one Chelsea fan said: “Even if Felix can’t bench [Cole] Palmer, he can effectively replace Jackson and give Chelsea goals.”
Another Chelsea supporter posted on X: “Everyone knows playing Felix as a false 9 is far better than playing Jackson every day up front.”
One fan simply stated that Felix was the superior player out of the two. They wrote: “Felix as a striker… Haha was always gonna be better than Jackson.”
One other user on X shared: “Playing Felix as a 9 is far better than whatever it is Jackson is doing up front.”
Chelsea are monitoring Jean-Philippe Mateta, so the Crystal Palace star could be one option to challenge or replace Jackson next season.
Felix will be pleased that he managed to score on his debut for Milan, but the 25-year-old can be satisfied with his overall performance.
He got involved in the game after coming on as a second-half substitute, registering 30 touches of the ball. Felix also managed to win both the aerial duels he competed in and two out of the three ground duels he was involved in.
Going up against more physical and robust defenders in the Premier League, you would not expect Felix to be as successful in his duels if he returns to Chelsea in the summer. But after Jackson’s worrying dip in form, perhaps supporters have a point about the Portugal international being a potential striker option for Enzo Maresca.
