REPORT: Warriors to acquire $45 million former Bucks to support…see more

The Golden State Warriors brought in Miami Heat veteran star Jimmy Butler at the trade deadline with the goal of winning a championship in mind.

There’s no reason to assume that adding Butler is the only major chance Golden State will make to their roster prior to the postseason, as the buyout market could have a player or two in store for them. One of those players could be former Milwaukee Bucks Rookie of the Year and Washington Wizards guard Malcolm Brogdon.

ClutchPoints’ Jedd Pagaduan predicts the Warriors will land the $45 million guard if his contract is bought out by the Wizards.

“If Malcolm Brogdon were to be bought out, he would immediately vault atop the rankings of the most talented players on the buyout market,” Pagaduan wrote. “The Warriors can definitely use a man with his skillset; Brogdon isn’t strictly a pick-and-roll guard like Dennis Schroder, which means that he can be a much better fit in the Dubs’ offensive system that’s predicated on movement and passing.”

With the Wizards this season, Brogdon is averaging 13.1 points, four assists, and four rebounds on 43.7% shooting and 31.4% shooting from three-point range. While his efficiency is far from the best, he contributes to the game in a variety of aspects and could support superstar Stephen Curry coming off the bench.

“Brogdon, like a few others on this list, is an injury risk as well. However, when healthy, Brogdon has been showing that he still has some gas left in the tank,” Pagaduan wrote.

The 32-year-old Sixth Man of the Year has not appeared in more than 70 games since his rookie season, and has missed substantial matchups over the past four years.

“One can argue that he hasn’t just been playing as much over the past one and a half seasons since he’s been playing for lottery-bound teams. And on the Warriors, he won’t be tasked to play a heavy role anyway, as he should settle in as a steady backup point guard behind Stephen Curry,” Pagaduan concluded.
