MN” How Gimenez bonuses are structured – Spurs attempt…see more

Santiago Gimenez has begun his time at AC Milan in the best possible way in Serie A, scoring twice in his first two appearances.

As Calciomercato.com write, Gimenez has already drawn comparisons with Christian Vieri and Mauro Icardi with his centre-forward instincts inside the box but ‘El Bebote’ is not a fan of being compared to others, convinced that God has designed a unique path for him.

A lot has been written about the total priority that Gimenez gave to Milan in the winter transfer window. It is true that the Mexican asked his agent – Rafaela Pimenta – to do everything possible to end up with the Rossoneri, the club he loved as a child.

Tottenham tried right at the end of the mercato, looking for a striker who could operate alongside Dominic Solanke, who is currently out injured. However, the former Cruz Azul striker had already given his word to Zlatan Ibrahimovic and so Spurs turned to Mathys Tel of Bayern Munich.

The negotiation for Gimenez between Feyenoord and Milan was complex and required work on various fronts. CEO Giorgio Furlani first resolved the issue between Feyenoord and Cruz Azul (who had a resale clause) by selling Luka Romero to the Mexican club for €3.5m.

In the second part of the negotiation, Furlani agreed a €28.5m fixed base as the transfer fee plus a series of bonuses to reach a maximum of €35m, plus a 10% resale clause. Now, it has emerged that part of the bonuses are linked to three team objectives.

Firstly, there is a significant amount in the event of a top four finish in Serie A, then further bonuses for winning the Champions League or the Coppa Italia. A bonus of more than €1m is expected in case of reaching double figures in all competitions this season, and he is already at two goals.
