Player ratings: Bologna 2: 1 AC Milan…see more

AC Milan lost the crucial game against Bologna and as a result, they can pretty much say goodbye to a top-four finish. All but a few players failed the test at Renato Dall’Ara and below are the ratings for the Rossoneri.

If you haven’t already, make sure to check out how we decide the player ratings. From the scale to what affects the rating, we have compiled everything there.

Starting XI

Maignan (6): He was crucial on the goal, with the long ball for Gimenez, and he had another good save before that. For once, he couldn’t do anything about the goals and aside from one or two dodgy moments on crosses, he did well.

Jimenez (4.5): The defending on Bologna’s winner was laughable, as he completely stopped in a crucial moment. Truth be told, he lost the 1v1 duel with Dominguez (it wasn’t him on the goal, but still) long before that and struggled to add anything in attack, or at least the crosses weren’t good enough. Very poor indeed.

Thiaw (5): It was a rough start to the game for him, with really poor positioning and sluggish reactions. He recovered slightly and had some good interventions, but also some poor giveaways and this wasn’t anything like what we’ve seen from him recently.

Pavlovic (5.5): He fought until the very end, as always, and mostly had positive contributions. However, he lost his man on Bologna’s winner and although the cross never should have been allowed in the first place, he needed to do better. As such, we can’t give him a pass tonight, even if he was the best defender overall.

Hernandez (5): It was an average display if we compare it with his other performances this season, i.e. not very good. The few times he did get forward (well) in attack, he failed to find teammates with the crosses and defensively, he often left too much space open.

Fofana (5.5): Some good contributions, some very poor. Rating Fofana in the last few months has been a tough one, and I don’t mean between good or bad. I think we can all agree he hasn’t been good enough and that was the case tonight as well, but determining how bad is always difficult with him.

Reijnders (5.5): Way too anonymous in the first half and for large parts of the second half as well. He was responsible for some corners and those certainly could have been taken better, while he also held back a bit with the difficult passes.

Musah (5.5): The American had some good intentions, especially down the right-hand side, but the final touch was missing as always. The pass for Gimenez inside the first 23 seconds, the crosses with no destination and the shot more or less straight at Skorupski after a great run. Sadly, we can only judge the end product.

Joao Felix (5): He occasionally dropped down and that gave Milan some space. However, he wasn’t good enough on the ball overall and didn’t really bring anything decisive to the table.

Leao (6): It was a tough game for him in general, as was expected against a strong De Silvestri, but he got Milan’s only goal after a great run and composure in the 1v1 with the keeper. He can do more, for sure, but the goal gives him a pass here.

Gimenez (5.5): The assist was good, don’t get me wrong, but aside from that he was really quite disappointing. He missed a big chance inside the first 23 seconds, not even hitting the target even if the pass could have been better. His touch was also poor, failing to bring down a lot of balls, and he struggled to get involved.

Substitutes

Pulisic (5.5): He had a few poor giveaways and didn’t really add much to Milan’s attack, even if he came on in a difficult situation.

Jovic (6): Encouraging from him, managing what Gimenez couldn’t by bringing down the ball and finding a teammate. Given how Milan played, though, there wasn’t enough time for him to make more of a difference.

Abraham (N/A): We didn’t see enough to give him a rating.
