Andrea Berta was heavily linked with the sporting director vacancy at AC Milan for a while but as highlighted by a report, it won’t materialise. The Rossoneri decided to wait and now the Atletico Madrid man has moved on.

Having fallen out with the current sporting director Antonio D’Ottavio, and with fans asking for a more prominent name, Milan have been evaluating several options in the last few months. Berta, currently at Atletico Madrid, was one of them.

According to today’s edition of La Repubblica, as cited by Il Garante, Berta ‘was ready to say yes’ to Milan when they first approached him about the job. After almost eight years at Atletico Madrid, he was keen on a return to Italy if it meant going to a big club.

However, when the decisive moment came, Milan decided to wait and Berta was approached by other clubs. He’s now set to join a foreign one and the Rossoneri option has been ruled out from his side, wanting time to plan ahead of next season.

Fabio Paratic, formerly of Juventus and Spurs, is now the favourite to replace D’Ottavio as per the newspaper. That being said, a quick decision will also be needed to secure him.
