The game against Lazio tonight is a must-win for AC Milan but perhaps also for Sergio Conceicao, amid speculation he could be sacked.
As Corriere della Sera (via Calciomercato.com) report, Conceiçao has partially backtracked after his sensational outburst following the defeat to Bologna, after which he claimed that he is being disrespected by lies written about him
In the press conference he did on the eve of the match with Lazio, Conceicao used a softer tone, and there is a reason behind it. The Milan management did not hide their ‘discomfort’ following the strong words he used, believing that it caused further instability in an already difficult moment.
The goal of fourth place – the minimum for the club to participate in the Champions League next season – is further away after the two defeats to Torino and Bologna, but they expect Conceicao to finish the campaign ‘in a dignified manner’.
However, despite the conversation with the Portuguese about his harsh words, Milan do not appear too tempted by a new change of coach before June, after the dismissal of Paulo Fonseca at the end of December.
It does not mean that he is fully safe, though, because a defeat against Lazio – if it were accompanied by a less than optimal performance – could produce new twists.
