MN: Hummels smacks Ranieri and Roma’s exclusion gently…see more

Mats Hummels sent an amusing message to Roma coach Claudio Ranieri after being dropped again. ‘The Oscar for the longest vacation goes to…’

The centre-back had been a regular since Ranieri took over at the Stadio Olimpico, flourishing to become one of the leaders of the squad.

However, he has made only two competitive starts since January 17, left on the bench for the entirety of the other seven matches between Serie A, the Coppa Italia and Europa League.

Ranieri had explained that the 36-year-old required “rest” and to focus on a specific training schedule in order to get back to the fitness levels seen earlier in the campaign.

Hummels decided to go on Instagram and gently mock both his situation and last night’s Academy Awards ceremony.

“The Oscar for the longest vacation goes to…”

It was accompanied by photographs of the German international enjoying life in the Eternal City, including a trip to a restaurant, but naturally he’d rather be on the field.
