The Portuguese international has a €175m (£146m) release clause in his contract but TEAMtalk claim that the Rossoneri are willing to offload the player for a fee significantly below that amount.
With the Serie A side keen to raise funds for a squad rebuild after a disappointing season, Leao could be sacrificed, along with Theo Hernandez and others.
TEAMtalk report that Leao’s availability has piqued Liverpool’s interest as there is a possibility that Luis Diaz could leave at the end of the season.
With that being the case, Diaz could be allowed to leave this summer, with the club reluctant to keep a player who will soon reach the final two years of his current deal.
Barcelona have been linked with the winger on and off over the past couple of seasons, although the Catalan club are also believed to be interested in Leao.
The winger’s ability is not in doubt. He is extremely quick, and his dribbling ability is up there with the best in the world. The likes of Chelsea and Manchester United have considered making bids for Leao at different points in his career.
However, there are concerns about his output in the final third. This campaign, Leao has been in good form, having scored 10 goals and provided 8 assists in 38 appearances.
A goal contribution every 2 games is pretty much par for the course in terms of his senior career so, the question is, is it worth paying in excess of £80m for someone who doesn’t actually offer that much more than Diaz?
