Calciomercato.com recall Allegri’s last act as a head coach: a heated night in Rome after the Coppa Italia final won over Atalanta, resulting in contract a contract then terminated on June 3. He has been free since then and – despite many links – is yet to find a suitable job.
Last January it seemed all set for Allegri’s arrival in Saudi Arabia at Al-Ahli. A very rich contract was on the table, at least €50m for two seasons, but the Saudi Pro League club then decided to trust the German coach Matthias Jaissle rather than changing.
Where might he end up? Allegri is in the pool of names evaluated by Roma to try to give further impetus to the project, one which will see Claudio Ranieri move into the management. However, he at Juve he earned €7m net per season, which seems too high for the Giallorossi.
Rumours about Milan have been rekindled. Last summer, before the hiring of Paulo Fonseca, Allegri had been linked with a return to the Rossoneri, given that Sergio Conceiçao is almost certain to depart at the end of the current season.
A new sporting director will arrive and Igli Tare is the strong candidate at the moment, which could fuel Allegri’s chances of a second spell at Milan. Why? In 2016, when he was still working for the Biancocelesti, Tare openly praised Max.
“We were on the verge of bringing Donadoni to Rome two years ago. We spoke to him at length. He made a good impression on us, he is a man of few words but very concrete. We also spoke with Allegri, who in my opinion is the best Italian coach . But then we veered towards other names, choosing Pioli,” he said.
The esteem remains unchanged and the idea of leading a new project at the helm of Milan is tempting for Allegri, but it remains to be seen whether his name can actually unite CEO Giorgio Furlani, Senior Advisor Zlatan Ibrahimovic and the RedBird ownership.
The last idea is perhaps the most surprising: Inter. Although Simone Inzaghi’s position on the bench is not in question today, speculation has been circulating for months about a possible separation at the end of the season.
The parties have been open to a renewal although they have postponed any discussions until the end of the season to focus on the pitch. In the meantime, there has been repeated talk from abroad of interest from Premier League clubs.
Beppe Marotta hinted that he strongly considered Allegri before Inzaghi’s arrival, stating to Sky last year: “These are normal dynamics: when you are looking for a coach you immediately contact those who are free. Allegri was contacted because he was free.
