AC Milan and Mike Maignan have reached an agreement in principle to extend his contract but there is a delay in formalising things, a report claims.
It has been a strange season for Maignan, who has finally managed to go injury-free after being plagued in previous campaigns, but his performance levels have fluctuated and he has made some uncharacteristic errors at times.
Nonetheless, there have been several reports stating that he has a verbal agreement with Milan to renew his deal expiring in 2026. That certainly suggests that management still have faith in the Frenchman, perhaps unlike his compatriot Theo Hernandez who seems to be heading for the exit door.
Transfer expert Matteo Moretto spoke on Fabrizio Romano’s YouTube channel about what the current situation is related to Maignan and the renewal that is on the table but not signed yet.
“For Maignan there is a renewal issue. We have said several times how this contract was, verbally, ready from a technical point of view, agreements. We know, however, that contracts in football must be signed,” he said (via PianetaMilan).
There is a verbal agreement between Milan and Maignan, until 2028, so not until 2029, with a high salary. I mean, high for what are Milan’s parameters, because Leao, who is the highest paid at the moment within the Milan squad, receives a salary of 5 million euros net plus 2 in bonuses.
Maignan would receive 5 plus bonuses, he would not touch Leao’s point but despite there being a verbal agreement, and everything being ready to sign, at the moment Milan is taking a bit of time.
“First, the sporting director must understand, so the choice to proceed with this important investment for the economic dynamics of Milan, must be shared with the sporting director.
“And second, there are some reflections underway for what are the performances of Maignan: whether it is really worth doing it or not. At this moment here the phase is waiting.”
