Tammy Abraham had a direct hand in AC Milan’s comeback against Como on Sunday, and he hopes it will begin a period that sees him earn a stay.
As Corriere dello Sport (via MilanPress) reports this morning, Abraham’s impact against both Lecce and Como was decisive in allowing Milan to turn the games around and take home six precious points, to boost morale and help trim the gap to fourth (now at six points).
In the game at the Stadio Via del Mare, he came on when the score was 2-0 for the home team. While he did not score, the former Chelsea man seemed to be more of a handful than an time times isolated Santiago Gimenez.
During Sunday’s match at San Siro, he came on when the score was 1-1 and then provided the assist for Tijjani Reijnders winning goal. It was an assist we have seen before from him too, playing with his back to goal and finding the runner in behind.
What will happen regarding Abraham’s future? The numbers this season are on his side, because in 37 games overall in all competitions – a total of 1,459 minutes – the 27-year-old has scored eight goals and provided five assists (a goal involvement every 112 minutes.
Not only that, but his attitude (barring the penalty incident versus Fiorentina) has been exemplary. He started the season behind Alvaro Morata in the pecking order, then Gimenez was signed when the Spaniard left, but the Englishman kept working hard to show his value.
Speaking after the Como win, he told DAZN: “This is what I do! Every time I come on the pitch, I want to help the team as much as possible, with goals, assists, defending, I’m a team player. He’s one of my best friends in the team, so I’m happy.”
Roma are asking for at least €20-25m to let him go and it will also be necessary to discuss the situation regarding Alexis Saelemaekers with the Giallorossi, who has done well on loan there. It will be talked about soon, probably after appointing a new sporting director.
