The Pittsburgh Steelers are still searching for their starting quarterback, as the team is waiting on Aaron Rodgers to make a free agency decision after the veteran visited the franchise’s facility on Friday.
It’s clear the Steelers are eyeing Rodgers to be their starting signal-caller in 2025, but Sportskeeda’s Henrique Bulio believes Pittsburgh should trade for Tennessee Titans quarterback Will Levis as their backup plan if they can’t land Rodgers.
“Another team that could look to trade for Levis is the Steelers, as they sit together with the Giants and waiting for Aaron Rodgers’ decision. A plan B should already be worked on,” Bulio wrote.
“Mike Tomlin knows the importance of fixing the quarterback position. The Steelers have not won a playoff game since the 2016 season. If Pittsburgh believes that they can get the best of Levis with a fresh start for the quarterback, it’s worth taking a flyer,” Bulio added.
Levis showed some promise during his rookie season in 2023, but the 25-year-old was abysmal in 2024, starting 12 games for the Titans and tossing 13 touchdowns to 12 interceptions with a 2-10 record. He also went through a shoulder injury and was benched for Mason Rudolph at one point.
Levis struggled with turnovers and disappointed last season, and with Tennessee holding the No.1 overall pick and having their sights set on Miami quarterback Cam Ward, the former Kentucky Wildcat’s future with the franchise is looking bleak. According to NFL insider Josina Anderson, Levis has come up in trade discussions around the league, and the Titans could be ready to move on from the young signal-caller.
Though Levis was one of the worst starting quarterbacks in the league last year, he has potential and exciting arm talent that has flashed at times. His decision-making needs work, but the Steelers could take a flyer on Levis and have him be the backup behind Rodgers or whoever their starting quarterback is this year.
However, Levis can’t be Pittsburgh’s starting signal-caller in 2025, as the former second-round pick clearly isn’t ready to lead a team and needs a few years to learn from an experienced veteran. But trading a late Day 3 pick for Levis to compete for the backup role with Rudolph and be a developmental project in the Steelers’ quarterback room would be a savvy move from general manager Omar Khan.
