Alexis Saelemaekers’ future is yet to be written, and some expressions of interest have arrived from the Premier League.
As Calciomercato.com recall, Saelemaekers went to Roma last summer in a loan swap with Tammy Abraham and, after being sidelined for two months with an ankle injury, he has established himself as one of the most important players in the squad.
His versatility has certainly favoured a process that has seen him change tactical and technical perspectives: he was supposed to be a left winger, he has established himself as a right wing-back, guaranteeing balance and quality.
And the numbers show a significant growth: six goals and three assists in 17 appearances in Serie A with the Giallorossi. The fans already consider him a favourite, his teammates trust him, but he could end his experience in the capital at the end of the season.
Roma do not have any option to buy on Saelemaekers’ contract and will eventually have to negotiate with Milan to keep him. The mission promises to be very complicated also because the first approaches between the two clubs in January showed a certain distance between the parties.
On one side, the Giallorossi hoped to close an equal exchange with Abraham, on the other there is the Rossoneri that want to take time regarding the English striker and values Alexis at no less than €25-30m.
The will of the Belgian will have an impact but up to a certain point because the aim for the Diavolo is to make the most money possible from his sale. Otherwise he will return to Milanello to play with his old teammates.
Saelemaekers could have already emigrated to England last summer when Leicester, West Ham and Nottingham Forest knocked on Milan’s door to ask for information. Now Forest have returned to the charge by testing the waters with his agents ahead of potential Champions League qualification.
