As NFL free agency continues to drag on, quarterback Aaron Rodgers’ options continue to diminish, especially with the New York Giants signing Russell Wilson to a one-year, $10.5 million contract.
After Tom Pelissero of NFL Network also revealed that the Minnesota Vikings were no longer pursuing Rodgers, it left the Pittsburgh Steelers as one of the final teams still interested in the aging 41-year-old.
Of course, though, the alternative to all of this is the four-time MVP instead deciding to call it a career and retire instead of singing with anybody.
Due to all the uncertainties surrounding Rodgers, Moe Moton of Bleacher Report is urging the Steelers to look at other options and sign free-agent quarterback Carson Wentz instead.
“If begging Aaron Rodgers to make up his mind doesn’t work, sign Carson Wentz,” Moton wrote.
The last time Wentz got a chance to be a team’s full-time starter was in 2021 for the Indianapolis Colts, where he put up some numbers, completing 322-of-516 passes for 3,563 yards, 27 touchdowns, seven interceptions, and a 94.6 passer rating.
Since then, though, he’s bounced around three different teams, appearing in 13 games while his stats took a big dip, completing 201-of-319 passes for 2,036 yards, 13 touchdowns, 10 interceptions and an 81.7 passer rating.
Wentz could at least compete for a starting job with Mason Rudolph and Skylar Thompson, the Steelers’ only other quarterbacks entering 2025.
He’s also a very cheap option, with Spotrac placing his market value at $1.9 million annually, which is just a fraction of his $132.7 million career earnings.
