Roberto De Zerbi has ended up back on AC Milan’s radar ahead of another potential change in head coach at the end of the season.
Soccerhuz.com report that one summer ago De Zerbi was ‘very close’ to becoming Milan boss having been sounded out after the collapse of the negotiations for Julen Lopetegui and before the agreement with Paulo Fonseca.
Eventially, nothing came of it and the coach decided to join Marseille’s project. While they are on course to get a Champions League place, defeat to Reims yesterday leaves them 21 points behind leaders PSG, with seven gaes to go.
De Zerbi’s record with Les Olympiens reads 15 wins, four draws and eight defeats in 27 games, with 49 points earned, but the defeat at Stade Auguste-Delaune is the third defeat in a row, after those against PSG and Lens.
There has been talk again of a potential move to Milan. A discussion took place on Saturday between Fabio Paratici – Milan’s probable new sporting director – and De Zerbi’s agent, Edoardo Crnjar. For his part, the ex-Brighton boss has never made a secret of wanting to return to the Rossoneri one day.
The desire to be Milan manager and to be able to follow in the footsteps of maestro Arrigo Sacchi have always been a dream for him. Whether the meeting was an exploratory contact, a request for information or something more in will soon be seen.
