Chelsea are likely to have a busy 2025 summer transfer window after opting against making any prominent signings in the January transfer window. However, they appear to have found a new concerning update on the future of on-loan winger Joao Felix.
The 25-year-old was sent on loan to Serie A side AC Milan for the remainder of the 2024/25 season in the winter window, but it hasn’t really been smooth sailing for him ever since. It is being reported by Fabrizio Romano that the Italian club has already decided that they will not be working with Felix beyond the end of the ongoing campaign.
The journalist claims that the feeling that Milan wouldn’t sign him permanently came up from March, and the club has now made their decision. They will now be sending Felix back to Chelsea after the loan spell ends and will not look to negotiate on the possibility of permanently signing him. The journalist also adds that the Premier League side “will assess the situation in the summer” and try to find a new buyer for the Portuguese winger, as they don’t have any current plans to integrate them back into their first-team setup.
It has actually been an eventful 2024/25 season so far for the Portugal international, but not the most successful one. He joined Chelsea from Atletico Madrid in the 2024 summer window but couldn’t really tap into his best form in the first half of the campaign. He made 20 appearances for Enzo Maresca’s side before his loan move, scoring seven goals, six of which came in cup competitions.
Felix went on a new journey in his career with a switch to the Rossoneri but has had a pretty forgettable outing for them so far. He has only scored one goal and provided a single assist in 11 appearances in the loan spell, failing to really stand out in the squad. The 25-year-old, who is currently rumoured to be on £130,000-a-week wages at Stamford Bridge, looks to be facing an uncertain future beyond the 2024/25 season with Milan not wanting to sign him on a permanent basis.
