As LeBron James traverses his way through his historic career, he continues to add his name to the NBA record books. Over the past few years, his name has climbed to, or near the top, of multiple all-time records.
Most notably, James became the NBA’s all-time leading scorer in 2023, surpassing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Every time James suits up for another game, he extends his lead on one of the NBA’s most prestigious lists. James has currently scored 42,036 points in his career.
While James is a talented scorer, it is his sustained longevity that ceases to amaze the basketball world. A record James holds (that may never be broken), is the most consecutive seasons averaging at least 25 points per game. James has currently accomplished this feat in 20 straight seasons (all but his rookie season).
While @BronMuse on X is jumping to the conclusion that this incredible streak will come to an end this season, they posted every season of James’ point scored averages in a continuous list.
While James has played impressive basketball throughout his 40-year-old season, this historic streak is in danger. With seven games remaining in the regular season, James is currently averaging 24.4 points per game. In order to bring his scoring average to 25 points or more per game, James will need to average at least 30.43 points per game (assuming he plays in all seven remaining games).
James has been hampered by a groin injury during the second half of the season, however, with the Los Angeles Lakers entrenched in a tight race for playoff seeding in the Western Conference, it is conceivable that James plays in every game remaining on the Lakers schedule.
The Lakers currently possess the No. 3 seed in the Western Conference, however, they are only three games back of the No. 2 seed Houston Rockets and only 2.5 games ahead of the No. 8 seeded Memphis Grizzlies.
The Lakers next chance to hold onto the No. 3 seed, and for LeBron to keep his scoring streak alive comes against the Golden State Warriors at 10 p.m. EDT on Thursday night.
