Maignan was named the MOTM by the Italian newspapers this morning and by us, he was given the same rating as our MOTM Luka Jovic. Indeed, the goalkeeper made several really good saves, making sure Milan walked away with a point.
Speaking to Sky Italia after the game, as transcribed by MilanNews, Maignan shared his thoughts on Milan’s inability to start the games well. He was also asked about the contract renewal, which appears to be imminent, but he didn’t give much away.
It’s true that it doesn’t feel nice, because we want to win and I want to win. Every day we work to get high results that a club like Milan deserves. At the moment, we don’t have the wind in our favor. We have to work and believe until the end: we’ll settle the accounts at the end.”
“Maybe it’s a mental thing, we lose confidence when we start the game and concede goals. We have to find the balance to be effective.
“I feel good at Milan, I give everything for the shirt every time I put it on and every day. Right now I’ll tell you the truth, I don’t want to talk about the contract. I want to talk about football and find the right balance. Milan, the team and everyone deserve more. My personal situation is not the most important thing at the moment.”

It’s nice to see Maignan back in form and it’s something the Milan directors were waiting for as well, now keen on proceeding with the renewal (surely, anyway). A pay rise is long overdue, even if that last two seasons have had more ups and downs that the goalkeeper would have wanted.
