The Los Angeles Lakers are peaking at the right time—and Luka Doncic believes he knows why.
After a rocky start to the season, the Lakers have transformed into one of the hottest teams in the league. Since hovering around the .500 mark in early December, Los Angeles has surged into playoff contention, winning key games behind dominant performances from their new-look roster.
The latest statement came in a 126–99 blowout win over the Oklahoma City Thunder, the team that currently has the best record in the league. Doncic poured in 30 points, grabbed seven rebounds, and added six assists in just over three quarters of work. But when asked what’s fueling the Lakers’ momentum, the All-Star didn’t point to a single player. He pointed to the team’s approach.
“Just Sharing the Basketball”
“We’ve been moving the ball really well,” Doncic said after the win. “I thought we shared the ball great and that’s how we got great looks.”
That mindset has been paying off. Since the blockbuster trade that sent Anthony Davis to Dallas and brought Doncic to Los Angeles, the Lakers have climbed back into the top half of the Western Conference. They’re now firmly in the playoff mix, with a potential first-round showdown looming against Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors.
Doncic acknowledged the importance of rhythm and chemistry heading into the postseason and made it clear the Lakers aren’t content with just making the playoffs—they want to make a run. If they keep moving the ball like this, they just might.
