Zvonimir Boban does not even want to consider the idea of Sandro Tonali joining Inter, even if Paolo Di Canio believes it would be an ideal move.
Tonali’s sale to Newcastle United in the summer of 2023 is still very painful for many Milan fans as they saw a boyhood fan of the club depart. His adventure in England didn’t start in an ideal way with his suspension due to betting activity, but he returned at the end of August.
The Italian was part of a team that won Newcastle’s first trophy in decades, beating Liverpool to lift the Carabao Cup. There continues to be speculation about a potential return to Milan though, which is likely to persist.
As Calciomercato.com recall, Boban and Di Canio were both pundits on Sky for the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final clash between Bayern Munich and Inter. The latter claimed that Tonali wants to leave Newcastle in the summer and return to Italy.
Di Canio added that he ‘is the ideal player’ for Inter and their three-man midfield. Boban’s response was strong: “No no, stop it immediately, it is a very painful discussion. I don’t think so anyway. Marotta was clear, the philosophy has changed, Inter is becoming like Milan in management.”
