Milan probable de evitar sanción tras violar Serie A captaincy rules

This weekend, Mike Maignan wore the captain’s armband once again, but following his injury, AC Milan were at risk of a fine for the rest of the game.

The scenes of this weekend were harrowing, put simply. Maignan bravely attempted to win the ball aerially, but instead of finding the ball, he met with the shoulder of Alex Jimenez, which knocked the goalkeeper unconscious.

To everyone’s credit, the match was stopped instantly, and medics quickly rushed onto the pitch, and just minutes later, the Frenchman was on his way to the hospital to get the medical care he needed. However, in the rush of it all, Milan were left at risk of a fine.

As Gazzetta dello Sport (via Football Italia) writes, the Rossoneri actually broke a ‘rare’ Serie A rule, which states that a captain must be on the pitch at all times of the game – which was not the case, as the goalkeeper was stretchered off of the playing field whilst wearing the armband.

It is stated in the report that a fine could theoretically be given to the club, as there was no official captain on the pitch. However, the club are almost definitely going to avoid any punishment, considering the events.
