Amidst a whirlwind of criticism, the Dallas Mavericks have deepened their crisis after trading Luka Doncic, exacerbated by comments from Nico Harrison, who decided to speak out at the most inopportune moment.
During his press conference, Harrison confessed to underestimating Doncic’s value to the city, claimed that the controversial deal strengthened his bond with Governor Patrick Dumont, and proclaimed that he had achieved all of his goals in the negotiations, further fueling the controversy.
His words angered many Dallas fans, as Luka Doncic’s departure hurt the entire state of Texas. To this day, they still miss him and it will take a long time to heal the wound he left behind.
NBA legend Charles Barkley told Nico Harrison to shut up, saying he was wrong in his comments at the last press conference justifying Dallas’ terrible season that ended without a playoff spot.
“Hey, man, I consider you a friend. Nico Harrison, I consider you a friend. I wish you the best. I think you did a good job with the Mavs last year, and obviously what happened this year didn’t go well,” he said.
“Man, don’t do any more press conferences. I don’t even know what you do. I really don’t. I have compassion and love for you, but I have no idea what you’re trying to do. This war is over, brother. You’re defeated. I hope you keep your job, I hope the team recovers, but man, don’t do any more interviews. Please don’t.”
But if you thought those were Charles Barkley’s last words, you’re wrong. He wasn’t finished, and I’m going to go ahead and say that it’s best if Nico is released from his position with the Mavericks, because he’s not going to solve anything in the short term.
Harsh words, but ones that Dallas fans applaud. The relationship was broken with the Luka Doncic trade.
