In early February, the Dallas Mavericks made a trade that was criticized more than any move Jerry Jones has made since taking over the Dallas Cowboys.
The Mavericks shocked the sports world when they sent Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers in a package that included Anthony Davis. On Tuesday, Jones was asked about the trade and let fans know his family wasn’t happy following the announcement.
Jones told reporters that his wife, Gene, cried when she heard Doncic was being sent to L.A.
One of the top players in the game today, Doncic was traded for Davis, who is already 31, and a first round pick in 2029. It’s hard to see the rationale behind the move and general manager Nico Harrison has become the least popular man in Dallas for making the move.
Jones is meeting with reporters Tuesday for a pre-draft press conference. Also in attendance is head coach Brian Schottenheimer, executive vice president Stephen Jones, and vice president of player personnel Will McClay.
The Cowboys own pick No. 12 in the opening round of the 2025 NFL draft, which will begin on Thursday night.
Happy Tuesday, Dallas Cowboys Nation. In approximately 48 hours, we will be sitting around with snacks and a beverage of choice while anxiously waiting to see what direction the team will go in the NFL Draft.
Dallas is on the clock with the No. 12 overall pick, so it won’t be too long of a wait, unless the team ultimately decides to trade back and keep everyone sweating a little bit longer.
Whether it be a wide receiver, defensive back, running back or offensive lineman, there are plenty of players who have been linked to the Cowboys who could make an immediate impact. Dallas may not make a “flashy” pick, but the team didn’t make a flashy head coaching hire and Brian Schottenheimer has done nothing but win fans over since then.
It may be difficult — and exhausting — as a Cowboys fan, but Thursday night will give us an idea of what the franchise has in mind moving forward. In the meantime, let’s take a look at some of the headlines making waves around the web and on social media.
The NFL Draft gets every NFL fan excited, and there’s nothing that gets the mind going better than role-playing as your favorite team’s GM. Blogging the Boys did just that by predicting all of the Cowboys’ upcoming selections.
Jerry Jones may be unpredictable, but he has a long sample of tendencies when it comes to the NFL Draft. InsideTheStar.com takes a look at 10 years of Jerry Jones draft tendencies.

The 2025 NFL draft kicks off this Thursday, and the Dallas Cowboys will be on the clock at No. 12 overall.
Following a 7-10 season, they’re looking to inject some firepower into an offense that was stagnant far too often in 2024.
The expectation is that they’ll look for someone such as Tetairoa McMillan or Matthew Golden at No. 12, but there’s no telling what might happen once Dallas is on the clock.
Perhaps we’ll know a little more about their thought process on Tuesday since owner/general manager Jerry Jones is scheduled to meet with the media at 11:30 a.m. Central Time.
In addition to Jones, the Cowboys will also have head coach Brian Schottenheimer, executive vice president Stephen Jones, and vice president of player personnel Will McClay on hand for the presser.
The Cowboys have 10 picks in this year’s draft, but there might not be room for 10 rookies to make the team. That could lead to some movement in the draft, even though Stephen Jones said they’re not likely to move up in Round 1.
What will be interesting, however, is seeing how much input Schottenheimer will have in this draft. He’s been credited with getting the entire building on board with his vision, which includes adding more physicality.
We can’t expect them to give up their plans, but hearing his thoughts heading into his first draft as a head coach will be interesting.
