Breaking news: Milan can still extend Jovic’s contract depending on two conditions

Luka Jovic stole the show with a brace during Milan’s 3-0 win over Serie A leaders Inter in the second leg of the Coppa Italia semi-final on Wednesday night, and is also currently performing as the team’s most efficient centre-forward, which has put him back in contention to sign a new contract extension in San Siro.

The Serbian opened the scoring with a bullet header 10 minutes before half-time, and then doubled his tally five minutes after the restart to bring his personal record up to four goals from his last five games.

Currently averaging a goal every 106.5 minutes of action, Jovic has the best goals-per-minute ratio of any of Milan’s current crop of centre-forwards, including Santiago Gimenez, Tammy Abraham and Francesco Camarda.

According to reports from Calciomercato.com, Milan still have an option to extend Jovic’s contract for another year. His current deal is due to expire at the end of the 2024-25 campaign.

Though the option is still in Milan’s hands, there are two factors that need to be considered.

Firstly is the appointment and subsequent approval of the club’s next sporting director. The Rossoneri are meeting with Igli Tare again on Thursday, and the former Lazio executive remains the frontrunner for the Milan job.

Secondly, Milan must exercise their option to extend Jovic’s contract before the end of the second week in July, which is when the clause in their agreement with the striker will expire
