ESPN: Luka Doncic has surpassed LeBron James and that could spell…see more

Midway through the NBA season, the Los Angeles Lakers made global headlines by pulling off a blockbuster trade to acquire Luka Doncic from the Dallas Mavericks. And after a somewhat uncertain start, Doncic has proven why he’s not only one of the NBA’s top stars, but one of the biggest names in global basketball.

The Lakers are currently battling the Minnesota Timberwolves in the first round of the NBA playoffs. In Game 2 of this heated series, Doncic broke a personal record that now places him among the greatest players in league history.

In that game, Doncic delivered an outstanding performance with 31 points, 12 rebounds, and nine assists-numbers that saw him surpass several legendary figures, including his own teammate, LeBron James.

Luka Doncic’s Record

In his playoff career, Doncic has now scored 27 or more points in 14 straight games. This achievement ties him for the third-longest such streak in NBA history, alongside legend Wilt Chamberlain-and puts him ahead of LeBron James. The only players ahead of him now are Elgin Baylor and Michael Jordan.

Doncic has firmly established himself as the driving force behind the Lakers this postseason since his arrival in Los Angeles. Despite a stellar 37-point performance in Game 1, his efforts weren’t enough to secure the win. But in Game 2, he set the tone early, posting 22 points, five rebounds, and five assists in the first half alone-guiding the team to a crucial victory.

LeBron James, now 40 years old, also bounced back after a sluggish Game 1. He contributed significantly in Game 2, tallying 21 points, 11 rebounds, and seven assists-proving he still has plenty to offer when it matters most.

As the series shifts to Minnesota for Game 3 on Friday, Doncic’s role will once again be critical. If the Lakers hope to make a deep playoff run, they’ll continue to lean heavily on their newest superstar.
