ICYMI, Luka Doncic sat down with ESPN’s Malika Andrews recently to discuss his feelings about being traded from the Dallas Mavericks, and amongst the topics they discussed, one of those included the question of who the All-Star’s favorite pop star is. The answer?
“Michael Jackson,” he told Andrews promptly, without missing a beat. Doncic’s trade ordeal from the Mavericks has been as confusing as it is surprising, but Doncic has handled the situation with a grace and maturity that is admirable. While a portion of the interview was previewed last week, the full segment was released on Wednesday night via ESPN.
“I would say I gave everything to that franchise,” Doncic reflected. “I played through a lot of injuries and a lot of things people don’t know. Never asked for nothing, small things… I had a great time, honestly. It was the first team that drafted me, I mean, the trade happened in the Draft, but I came there as a kid when I was 18, I didn’t know what to expect from the NBA, I didn’t know if I’d be good or bad. They gave me the opportunity and I really appreciate it.”
While the topic was serious, Andrews also took a minute to lighten things up a bit, hence the question about Doncic’s favorite popstar. Aside from Michael Jackson being his fave, Andrews also asked him about his favorite boyband? That would be The Backstreet Boys. And his favorite musical? “Mamma Mia,” of course.
“So enjoyed this conversation with Luka — first extensive interview since the trade,” Andrews wrote after the interview. “His honesty and openness gave us a rare, genuine look inside the tough moment.”
