REPORT: Conte to leave Napoli and wants Milan…see more

A journalist has claimed that Antonio Conte will leave Napoli and that the AC Milan job is the one that he has his eye on at the moment.

Among the many issues that Milan must address and get right during the summer is what to do with the head coach role. Sergio Conceicao is still expected to leave his post despite the possibility of winning a second trophy in less than six months, with many replacements linked.

Perhaps surprisingly – given he currently coaches a side 20 points higher in the table who are battling for the title – Conte’s name keeps being brought up. This morning’s Corriere dello Sport even mentioned that Napoli feel ‘threatened’ by Milan and Juventus’ interest in hiring him.

MilanNews did an interview with the well-known journalist Giancarlo Padovan and among the topics discussed they asked him about the head coach issue.

If Milan win the Coppa Italia, Conceicao would have two trophies in six months. Would you keep him?

“For me they have already decided not to keep him. Conceiçao still has the possibility of finishing with two trophies but this will not change his destiny. And if I were the one to decide I would also opt for the change.”

Who would you see as a good fit at Milan?

“I would try again for Antonio Conte, who is a coach who gives his best when he gathers a team that doesn’t play in the cups. I think he will win the title with Napoli and leave and Milan is the right team and the one he aspires to, because he has never coached them and because he wants to gather great teams.”

Juventus are trying to bring him back…

“Conte has long since stopped being a coach identified with a club, he wants to reiterate that he is a professional and as such he should be valued wherever he goes.”
