The latest update to the UEFA coefficient rankings sees Inter move to the top of the standings, while Juventus remain in 34th place, behind Lazio, Atalanta, Fiorentina and Milan, but still ahead of fellow Serie A sides Roma and Bologna.

Inter currently sit at the top of the UEFA seasonal club coefficient rankings after their 3-3 draw against Barcelona in the Champions League semi-finals and Arsenal’s 1-0 loss against Paris Saint-Germain.

The Nerazzurri are one of only two Italian teams still involved in UEFA competition this year, along with Fiorentina in the Conference League, which means they are the only teams from Serie A still able to improve their scores and ranking.

Juventus, Milan, Atalanta and Bologna are all out of the Champions League, while Roma and Lazio were both eliminated from this season’s Europa League.

Lazio are currently the second-highest rated Italian team in the UEFA rankings for 2024-25, largely thanks to their finishing at the top of the league phase table in the Europa League.

Atalanta are the third-highest ranked Serie A side in Europe this season.

Milan and Fiorentina are currently level on points in 24th place in the Coefficient rankings.

Juventus sit 10 places below them in 34th, slightly in front of the 40th-placed Roma and comfortably ahead of Bologna in 58th.

All told, there are 236 teams listed on this season’s UEFA club coefficient table, which includes every team involved in the Champions League, Europa League, Conference League and their respective qualifying rounds.

Inter – 1st (36.750 points)

Lazio – 13th (26.000 points)

Atalanta – 20th (21.000 points)

Fiorentina – 24th (19.000 points)

Milan – 24th (19.000 points)

Juventus – 34th (16.250 points)

Roma – 40th (14.500 points)

Bologna – 58th (11.000

The ranking system for the UEFA seasonal coefficient is a fairly straightforward process. Let’s take Inter as an example.

Teams are awarded two points per win in every UEFA competition (one point in qualifying or play-off rounds), one point for a draw (0.5 points in qualifying or play-offs) and zero for a loss.

Teams are also given a series of bonus points depending on their finish in the 2024-25 league phase. The team that finishes top of the Champions League table earns an extra 12.000 points, the team at the top of the Europa League earns 6.000 points while the team at the top of the Conference League earns an extra 4.000 points. The bonuses decrease by 0.250 points for every position in the league phase table.

Teams also receive an extra 1.5 points for reaching the round of 16, the same again for reaching the quarter-finals and the semi-finals.

So, Inter have nine wins, three draws and one loss in the 2024-25 Champions League, for which they earned 21.000 points in the coefficient rankings. As they finished fourth at the end of the league phase, they also earned 11.250 in bonus points, plus an extra 4.500 points for reaching the semi-finals for their final rank score of 36.750.
