The Minnesota Timberwolves pulled off an upset to end the Los Angeles Lakers’ season.
The Minnesota Timberwolves heard all the noise. Entering the 2025 NBA Playoffs, they were heavily regarded as the major underdogs in facing the LA Lakers for the opening round series.
With the Lakers boasting two of the league’s brightest stars in LeBron James and Luka Doncic, the T-Wolves saw themselves being deprived of the spotlight and favor across the basketball world and in the media.
Minnesota used the lack of attention as fuel, seixing being counted out by the majority, and went on to pull a resounding statement.
Playing team basketball all series long, the Timberwolves completely silenced all their critics, seeing off the Lakers with a 103-96 Game 5 dub to complete the gentleman’s sweep and advance to the Western Conference semi-finals.
While he had a quiet Game 5, the Timberwolves success was led by a spectacular series from Anthony Edwards, and this series win served as another feather in his cap, outlasting LeBron James.
Edwards embraced the challenge of going up against the all-time great. And with the lights being at the brightest, he performed at his best, and refusing to be backed down.
He might be hesitant to crown himself as the “future face of the league” yet, but Edwards is pretty much confident to say that he dethroned one of the current kings.
“It means a lot. I mean, we beat the best player in the world, the best player ever,” he plainly said about what this series victory meant for him and Minnesota.
Although he may not entertain it again, but Edwards faces major recognition as the NBA’s next poster boy.
After beating Kevin Durant and Nikola Jokic last postseason, the hype took off. And this year, the noise will go even louder, as he and the T-Wolves are greatly positioned already to make something special this 2025 Playoffs.
The hunt continues for Edwards to lead the Timberwolves atop the NBA mountain. If he can go on and win the title, his position as face of the NBA will be undeniable.
