Player Ratings: AC Milan 0-1 Bologna – Tomori, Walker and Jovic shocking…see more

AC Milan failed to soften the blow of an incredibly poor 2024-25 season, losing the Coppa Italia final to Bologna by the odd goal. Several players struggled to perform and the stars didn’t live up to expectations. Below are the ratings.

If you haven’t already, make sure to check out how we decide the player ratings. From the scale to what affects the rating, we have compiled everything there.

Starting XI

Maignan (6): Given the big save in the first half, on the header, he did enough to get a pass here. He was usually good with his feet too but admittedly had some dodgy moments, which pulls down his rating.

Tomori (4): He was incredibly rash throughout the game and as a result, he committed a lot of fouls, which eventually got him (rightfully) booked. I wouldn’t say he was necessarily at fault when Bologna scored, because so much went wrong collectively, but he could’ve done better then too.

Gabbia (5.5): Given the defensive collapse on Bologna’s goal, it’s hard to give the academy product a pass as well. The three-man backline seemed out of phase when it happened and he should be the one to direct the line, which failed in this case.

Pavlovic (5.5): He won back the ball a lot, it must be said, but he also lacked a bit of positional awareness on Bologna’s goal. It was better than some of the games we’ve seen recently but in a final like this, he cannot get a pass.

Jimenez (6): He started the game very well, getting forward and causing issues for Bologna. The cross that ended up at Jovic’s feet (after a save) is an example of that. Some defensive question marks, but did okay until he was subbed off.

Fofana (5): The Frenchman is supposed to be the director of this team, finding the right spaces and playing the right passes, but we saw very little of that tonight. Some silly fouls called against him but also some very justified ones.

Reijnders (5.5): For a player of his calibre, you have to add so much more to the team in a game like this. He didn’t get to the ball as he usually does, and whenever he found space, the right decisions didn’t come.

Hernandez (5): Just like with Tijjani, as a leader of this team, you have to take some responsibility and do so much more. We saw him get forward (in a good way) maybe once or twice tonight, and questions can definitely be asked about the defending on Bologna’s goal.

Pulisic (5.5): The narrative is the same for him as Reijnders and Hernandez. We need to see so much more from a creativity point of view. He did find space on both flanks in the first half but in the second, he faded. The replacement, Chukwueze, did more in his limited time.

Jovic (4.5): He missed a very big chance in the first half, even if the ball came quickly to him, and he had to do a lot better there. His link-up play wasn’t good enough either today, rendering his presence pretty much useless. The Coppa Italia brace seems like a distant memory.

Leao (5.5): The winger was behind pretty much everything that Milan created in the first half, one way or another. Given the final result, though, we have to be harsh and say that his final passes weren’t quite right. Add the fact that he had a pretty bleak second half to the equation and the rating seems fair.

Substitutes

Gimenez (5.5): Didn’t have much of an impact, let’s be honest, and he ended up wide at the end (where we definitely don’t want him, he can’t dribble in that way).

Walker (4): A shocker from someone who’s supposed to be very experienced. Very poor decisions in attack, not crossing when needed and not following through with his runs, plus some really bad passing overall.

Joao Felix (5.5): Like Gimenez, we saw some sparks of something but ultimately, he didn’t add much to the game.

Abraham (N/A): We didn’t see enough to give him a rating.

Chukwueze (N/A): We didn’t see enough to give him a rating. Note: He did come on and give Milan some hope, so perhaps he should have deserved a 6.
