Breaking news: Sacchi Four Milan problems, Conceiçao ‘the least to blame… see more

Arrigo Sacchi highlights four Milan problems this season but feels coach Sergio Conceiçao is the ‘least to blame.’

Milan have had a nightmare season, culminating in a defeat in the Coppa Italia Final against Bologna earlier this week.

The Rossoneri sit eighth in the Serie A table and have little chance of even qualifying for the Europa League.

Ex-Rossoneri boss Sacchi analysed the poor campaign on the red and black side of San Siro, starting his column by arguing that the club has had “no ideas.

The club comes before anything else, even before the coach and the other players,” Sacchi wrote for Gazzetta.

“Do you think today’s Milan has a clear vision as a club? To me, it certainly doesn’t seem so. They are moving blindly, and by doing so, they’re bound to crash into a wall.”

Sacchi also highlighted the wrong choice of coach last summer, when Paulo Fonseca was appointed.

Ex-Milan coach Sacchi defends Conceiçao

“The executives who made this decision made a serious mistake,” he wrote.

Halfway through the season, they thought it was best to backtrack and give the bench to Conceiçao. I think he’s the least to blame as he found himself working in complete chaos. In the end, you’ll see he’ll be the one to pay the price because that’s one of football’s old and absurd rules. Get rid of the coach, and all will be fixed.

According to Sacchi, the third error is a group of players that doesn’t form a united team.

“Milan have a group of players who were signed randomly. I’m not even questioning the individual technical quality, although I could, but the real problem is that they are not the kind of players who can form a cohesive team.”

Lastly, Sacchi highlighted further issues in the players’ selection during the summer transfer window.

“Berlusconi was not only by my side, but he also supported and defended me,” he concluded.

“Before signing Frank Rijkaard, I sent a trusted man to observe him during training. I received a report with details about what he ate, what time he woke up and who his friends were. Are these things done nowadays? It doesn’t seem to me, by judging what we see on the pitch. When mistakes are made, they must be corrected. Seeing Milan in such a poor state is truly unbearable for someone who loves the club like me.”

Milan’s next Serie A game is against Roma at the Stadio Olimpico, while the last game of the season will be against Monza at San Siro.
